“On the eighth day of Christmas, my true love gave to meeee…
...Cobra!”
What if an online catalogue existed that held useful information about every business and every industry, and which also included related statistics and figures? How much easier would it be to analyse your rivals, verify new suppliers, assess your sector’s progress, identify trends, form your marketing strategy, and more?
Would you believe it...there is one! It’s called ‘Cobra’. Cobra, for me, has been one of the most useful tools I’ve ever come across as a strategic marketer. In a matter of moments I can read the background stats of any industry and gain an insight into what other people have done and where to start. It also contains useful links to governing bodies, regional chambers and award publications.
Access typically costs up to £10,000 annually; however, there is a way you can use it for free. It involves a trip to your local library.
Many libraries hold subscriptions to Cobra. With a library card you can begin to use Cobra. Initially, you will see a page that looks like this:

I access Cobra via my local library’s website - it may be that you have to do this, too. It might take you a little while to get into it the first time, but bookmark it, and from then on, you’ll just be a couple of clicks away from accessing a wealth of valuable information.
For example, you may like to find out more information about your industry, including facts and figures:

There’s so much you can do with this information. It could help you to diversify, to form your marketing strategy, to help you create a budget for promotion and advertising...this really is just the tip of the iceberg as to what you could discover.
